What is in a Chevrolet Colorado windshield
A Chevrolet Colorado (2015–2026) is a midsize truck, and its windshield is not a sheet of glass. It is a laminated assembly carrying whatever your particular Colorado was built with — and that list is what turns one part number into six.
- rain / light sensor — The sensor bracket is bonded to the glass at the factory and cannot be moved to a cheaper pane. Fit glass without the bracket and the wipers stop working automatically.
GM Forward Collision Alert and why calibration is not optional
The Chevrolet Colorado carries GM Forward Collision Alert, which means a forward-facing camera mounted behind the rear-view mirror looking straight through the windshield. That camera is what runs automatic emergency braking, lane keeping and adaptive cruise, and it is aimed to a tolerance measured in fractions of a degree.
Change the glass and you have changed the optical path in front of that camera. Even a correct, properly fitted pane sits fractionally differently from the one that came out. The camera has to be recalibrated afterwards, and a car driving on an uncalibrated camera is a car whose emergency braking may read the world slightly off-centre.
We do not currently confirm in-house ADAS recalibration. Ask on the call — it is the right question, and the honest answer matters more than the convenient one. Anyone who tells you a GM Forward Collision Alert car needs no calibration after a windshield change is telling you something the manufacturer does not.
What drives the price on this one
A Chevrolet Colorado quote moves on 2 things: a bonded rain-sensor bracket; the optical tolerance GM Forward Collision Alert requires in front of the camera. Two Colorados of the same year in the same driveway can genuinely need different glass, which is why we ask for the year, make and model before quoting and why anyone who does not is quoting somebody else's car.
What should not change between quotes: OEM or OEM-equivalent glass matched to your VIN, a pinch weld cleaned back and primed rather than bridged, urethane laid in one continuous bead, a new moulding where the vehicle needs one, and a real safe drive-away time told to you before the technician leaves. A quote that is cheap because one of those was dropped is not cheaper, it is later.
