What matters on a Grand Cherokee
Start with the roof. The Jeep Grand Cherokee can be had with a panoramic glass panel over the cabin, and on a 100°F August afternoon in the valley that panel is the largest single heat load in the car — larger than all four side windows put together. If your Grand Cherokee has one, the honest recommendation is nano-ceramic film rather than carbon, and it is not an upsell: ceramic rejects infrared, which is the part of sunlight that actually carries heat, and the difference under a glass roof is not subtle.
The Grand Cherokee has bonded quarter glass — the small fixed panes behind the rear doors. They are fiddly, they are frequently skipped, and a car with tinted doors and untinted quarter panes looks unfinished from three cars back. Ours are cut from the vehicle's own computer pattern along with everything else.
California's tint law, and where the Grand Cherokee sits in it
The law is the same for every car and it is stricter than most states. Front side windows must let through at least 70% of visible light, measured as glass and film combined. The windshield may be tinted only along the top four inches, at the AS-1 line. Rear side windows and the rear windshield have no darkness limit at all.
That last sentence is why a Jeep Grand Cherokee can look properly finished and still be legal: go as dark as you like behind the B-pillar, keep the front doors light, and the car passes. A shop offering to put 20% on the front doors of your Grand Cherokee is offering you a fix-it ticket.
The trick people miss is that darkness and heat are different problems. Heat is carried by infrared, not by visible light. A legal 70% nano-ceramic film on the front doors rejects far more heat than an illegal 20% dyed film — you stop paying for darkness and start paying for the thing you actually wanted.
Film choice and price for a Grand Cherokee

Advanced Premium Carbon from $180 contains no metal, so it never interferes with phone, GPS, keyless entry or tyre-pressure sensors, and it will not fade to purple the way dyed film does. USA 5G Series nano-ceramic from $240 adds serious infrared rejection, which is what keeps the cabin cool at the same visible darkness.
On a Jeep Grand Cherokee the ceramic is the one to buy. The glass roof — or, on an EV, the range cost of pre-cooling — makes the difference measurable rather than theoretical.

The first week after installation
Leave the windows up for three days. The adhesive is still bonding, and the top edge is the vulnerable part — rolling a window down drags it against the door seal and peels it. In cold or damp weather give it five days.
You will see a slight milky haze and possibly small soft water pockets for the first week or two. That is the mounting solution evaporating and it clears on its own. Hard-edged bubbles that never change shape are contamination rather than moisture, and those are worth a phone call.
From then on: never use an ammonia-based glass cleaner. Most household blue glass cleaners are, and ammonia dissolves film adhesive. Ammonia-free cleaner or plain soapy water, on a microfibre cloth, wiping the top edge horizontally.
