Where the noise comes from
Almost always a void in the urethane bead — a spot where the adhesive did not make continuous contact between glass and pinch weld. Air moving over the car at speed finds the gap and makes it sing.
Less often it is a moulding that is not fully seated, or a cowl panel that was not clipped back down correctly after the job.
Narrowing it down yourself
Note the speed it starts at and whether it changes with crosswind. Then, with the car parked, run a hand around the inside edge of the glass with the fan on high and the vents closed — you can sometimes feel the draught.
A strip of painter's tape along one section of the outside edge at a time, with a short drive between, will usually localise it. If taping a section makes the noise stop, that is where the gap is.
Why not to ignore it
A path for air is a path for water. The whistle in September is the damp carpet in November, and by then the pinch weld under it has been wet for two months, which is how rust starts.
