Ceramic tint and ceramic coating are not the same thing

The detailing industry and the window film industry both borrowed the word "ceramic" for entirely unrelated products, and the confusion costs people money regularly.

Window Tint

Ceramic window tint

A film applied to the inside of your windows, containing non-metallic ceramic particles that reject infrared radiation — the part of sunlight that carries heat. It makes the cabin cooler, blocks essentially all UV, and does not interfere with any signal.

It goes on glass. It is about heat and comfort. Ours is $240 and up.

Ceramic paint coating

A liquid polymer applied to paintwork that cures into a hard hydrophobic layer. It makes the car easier to wash, adds gloss, and gives light protection against chemical etching and swirl marks.

It goes on paint. It is about appearance and cleaning. It does nothing whatsoever for cabin temperature.

What we do

We install ceramic window film. We do not apply ceramic paint coatings — that is a detailer's trade and a different skill.

If someone quotes you "ceramic" for a car and the number sounds surprising in either direction, ask which one they mean before agreeing to anything.

Need this done rather than explained? There is no shop to drive to. We come to wherever your car already is — your driveway, your workplace car park, an apartment lot, or the side of the road it stopped on — anywhere in greater Sacramento, with no call-out fee and no mileage charge. Give us the year, make and model and you will have a firm price before the call ends.

Questions on this topic

Is ceramic window tint the same as a ceramic coating?

No. Ceramic window tint is a film applied to the inside of the glass that rejects infrared heat and ultraviolet light. A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer applied to paintwork for gloss and easier washing. They share a word and nothing else.

Does ceramic tint help with heat more than ceramic coating?

Ceramic tint is the only one of the two that affects cabin temperature at all. A ceramic paint coating provides no heat rejection — it protects and gloss-finishes paint.
