Which coverage applies
Glass damage from a rock, vandalism or a break-in falls under comprehensive coverage, not collision. If you carry liability only, there is no glass coverage at all.
Some California insurers sell an optional full-glass or zero-deductible glass endorsement for a small premium. If you commute a lot of freeway miles it is usually worth having. Check your declarations page rather than guessing — it is a line item.
The deductible question
A typical comprehensive deductible runs $500 to $1,000. Many windshield replacements cost less than that, which means a claim pays nothing and you have still made a claim.
Chip repairs are the exception in the other direction: many insurers waive the deductible entirely for a repair, because a $50 repair prevents a $700 replacement. If your policy does that, repairing a chip can genuinely cost you nothing.
Will a glass claim raise my rate?
Comprehensive claims are not at-fault claims, and a single glass claim generally does not move a rate the way a collision does. Multiple comprehensive claims in a short window can affect renewal.
This is a question for your agent, not for a glass shop — including us. Anyone in this trade who tells you confidently what your carrier will do is guessing about your policy.
What we can tell you
We do not currently advertise direct insurance billing, and we are not going to imply it. Call and ask; the honest answer is more useful than the convenient one.
What we will always do is give you a firm price up front, so you can compare it against your deductible and decide with real numbers.
Need this done rather than explained? There is no shop to drive to. We come to wherever your car already is — your driveway, your workplace car park, an apartment lot, or the side of the road it stopped on — anywhere in greater Sacramento, with no call-out fee and no mileage charge. Give us the year, make and model and you will have a firm price before the call ends.
